Evaluating the groundwater quality of Damodar Fan Delta (India) using fuzzy-AHP MCDM technique

Abstract In recent years, groundwater pollution has become increasingly a serious environmental problem throughout the world due to increasing dependency on it for various purposes. The Damodar Fan Delta is one of agriculture-dominated areas in West Bengal especially rice cultivation and constraint regarding quantity quality. present study aims evaluate quality parameters spatial variation index (GWQI) 2019 using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) method. 12 water such as pH, TDS, iron (Fe − ) fluoride (F ), major anions (SO 4 2− , Cl NO 3 HCO cations (Na + Ca 2+ Mg K 29 sample wells area were used constructing GWQI. This FAHP method define weights different results reveal that bicarbonate content 51% exceeds acceptable limit drinking water, which maximum area. Furthermore, higher concentrations fluoride, chloride, calcium, magnesium, sodium are found few locations while nitrate sulfate contents all fall under limits. result shows 13.79% samples excellent, 68.97% very good, poor, 3.45% poor Moreover, observed located eastern part northwestern excellent western central understanding can help policymakers proper management resources
